We aren't sure that either Tom Petty's American Girls or Bachman Turner Overdrive's American Woman (later remade by Lenny Kravitz) quite capture our feelings on American Girls .

Did you see Heather Graham play Rollergirl in Boogie Nights (1997)?  It's indelibly etched in our consciousness.  If you've seen Swingers (1996), did you know that Heather had a small part as the object of Jon Favreau's desire in the final Los Feliz bar scene where Favreau finally gets his confidence back up.  If you haven't seen Swingers, we couldn't recommend it more highly.

How about Angelina Jolie in Salt (2010)?  Hard to believe the screenplay was originally written for a male protagonist, before it was rewritten for Angelina to play the lead.  We are fairly confident that neither Angelina's husband Brad Pitt nor Matt Damon (of the Bourne Trilogy) could have nailed the lead part as well as Angelina.  We've watched it 37 times to confirm.

Natalie Portman in Black Swan (2010)?  Man, that kid can act.  And The Academy obviously agrees, giving her a Best Actress nod.  While the film is just OK, Natalie also looks stunning in No Strings Attached (2011) with Ashton Kutcher, a film about friends who decide to try to strike up a physical relationship without changing the nature of their friendship.  You'll never guess how it turns out . . .

Which brings us to Mila Kunis .  We have carefully reviewed her . . . ahem . . . nuanced performance with Portman in Black Swan.  We're still trying to confirm whether there were any stunt doubles involved, so we have their shared scenes playing on a loop as our screensaver and are vigilantly looking for discrepancies.  We'll be sure to let you know if we have anything further to report.
